About Us

In 1983, two sisters started a dance school in Hetton-le-Hole. Trish N Trina began by offering tap and disco classes for children and adults. Over the years, more styles were added including modern stage, freestyle, and ballet. As things grew, we started running classes in other locations like the Arts Centre in Washington and in 1991, at Ouston Community Centre in Chester-le-Street.

Our dance school has continued to grow and develop, and we now teach everyone from age 2 through to adults. We support all our dancers to learn at their own pace and always try to help them be the best they can be. But Trish N Trina isn’t just a dance school – it’s a family. It’s a place where people feel welcome, make friends, and build confidence that lasts a lifetime.

Our first ever Elite Squad performed at the London Palladium in 2002. Since then, our dancers have performed at venues like the Royal Albert Hall, Drury Lane, Sadler’s Wells, Disneyland Paris, Silverstone and many more. This October, our current Elite Squad will be performing at Scarefest in Alton Towers.

We’re proud of everything we’ve achieved – but we’re not finished. Even after more than 40 years, we still love what we do. We keep working hard, always pushing forward, and always looking to what comes next.

The Cockburn Family Scholarship

As a competitive dancer, you would always look forward to dance festival season — a chance to compete against the very best in the country, and to represent not just your dance school, but your family.

These events were something we all looked forward to — the atmosphere, the pursuit of silverware, the socials. And year after year, the months of excitement building up to this weekend were always justified.

On 12th April 2013, a family who had been dancing with Trish & Trina for many years did not reach their destination, as a traffic collision sadly claimed their lives.

Angie, Beth, Carley, David and Lacie had been travelling from their home in Chester-le-Street, County Durham.

The Cockburn family were always a welcome presence in any room, constantly offering support and radiating positive energy like no other. Losing this family had a substantial impact on the dance school — especially those attending the dance festival in April 2013.

We were all heartbroken. Had it not been for the support I received from those within Trish N Trina Performers Academy, the torment of this tragedy would have been unbearable.

In recognition of this, the Cockburn Family Scholarship was established. The scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates commitment, dedication, and a genuine willingness to help others.
